熱風爐的燃料是BMF燃料，燃料由輸料機送入爐頂料倉，然後由透水地坪螺旋給料機送入爐膛，均勻散落在爐排上。

燃料被螺旋給料機送入爐膛，在此處由於高溫煙氣和一次風的作用逐步預熱，幹燥、著火、燃燒，此過程中析出大量揮發分，燃燒劇烈。產生的高溫煙氣沖刷熱風爐的主要受熱面後，進入熱風爐尾部受熱面省煤器和空氣預熱器，再進除塵器，最後經煙囪排入大氣。未氣化的燃料邊向爐排後部運動，直至燃盡，最後剩下的少量灰渣落入爐排後面的除渣口。
